THE 6 WORD DIET
The Six-Word Diet
PART THREE
THE TEN WONDERFACTS OF THE 6WD
The Ten WONDERFACTS of the 6WD
1. You'll experience fast, dramatic, long-term weight loss.
2. You'll eat almost constantly: twelve or more meals a day.
3. You'll be able to eat anything you choose--even cheesecake, burgers, and
fries—in 100-calorie portions.
4. You'll kickstart your metabolism.
5. No drugs, bizarre claims or unproven gimmicks.
6. Cheating is IN!
7. It's utterly and completely simple.
8. Exercise is NOT required for weight loss.
9. There's a l-o-o-o-o-ong list of unlimited foods.
10. It's HEALTHY! And it works with any eating preference, whether low-fat,
vegan or vegetarian, or high fat/high protein.
WONDERFACT #1
You'll experience dramatic, long-term weight loss.
Fast!
Most dieters would agree that the make-it-or-break it period of any diet is
the beginning. During those first few weeks, you're at your heaviest, and
you're most anxious to lose weight. Plus you're adjusting to a new way of
eating. Perhaps you're adding a new exercise regime, as well. If so, good for
you!
But it's at this point that your payoff is least and your output greatest.
You're the least satisfied with your shape, you're anxious, you're on a new
diet, and your muscles ache from a new workout--AND THERE'S NOTHING
TO SHOW FOR IT YET!
That's a heavy burden to bear, if you will.
That's why it's such a bonus that the 6WD works so quickly. In the very first
few days, you will be so motivated and energized when you see how fast the
pounds drop, that you will breeze through the make-it-or-break-it weeks,
wondering why it was ever so hard before.
Dramatic!
In addition to being fast, the weight loss is also dramatic, because you
have not only raised your metabolic rate, but you have, at the same time,
dramatically cut the number of calories you're consuming, even though you
don't feel the loss because you're eating virtually all day long.
Long-term!
The beneficial effects of the 6WD last a lifetime.
First, by simply becoming aware of calories, and learning how much
you should eat of the foods you love, you learn virtually effortlessly about
the character of all the foods that are part of your life, and how your
particular body and metabolism interact with those foods. You learn which
can be eaten limitlessly, which to eat sparingly, which to save for a splurge,
and which will keep you feeling full longer. This is the kind of knowledge that
stays with you long-term.
Second, your stomach shrinks and you are no longer interested in eating the
ferocious quantities you ate before--when you thought you had to go six or
more hours before you could eat again. You never again have to go so long
between meals. So your anxiety goes down about the quantity you must eat
to avoid hours of hunger. There will be no more hours of hunger. You learn
this.
The third and most important reason the beneficial effects of the 6WD last a
lifetime is simply this: Even if you choose to go off the eating plan
completely, you will have discovered a method of eating that you can always
return to, one that is quick, honest, and healthy. If you need it, it's there for
you, and you WILL lose the weight—every time.
WONDERFACT #2
You'll eat almost constantly--twelve or more meals per day.
Eating frequent small meals is nothing new, historically. In fact, it's the way
virtually all other members of the animal kingdom normally eat--except for
humans and domesticated pets. Wild creatures collect their food over the
course of a whole day, eating a little at a time--constant intake of small
portions. And as we all know, animals in the wild are never fatter than they
are supposed to be. Which animals get fat? The ones that eat just a few
larger meals per day: humans and their pets.
But how can eating all those meals make you thin?! It seems
impossible. But it makes perfect sense once you do the math.
If you are eating a 100-calorie meal every 90 minutes, and you sleep
eight hours per night, then if you begin eating as soon as you rise in the
morning, and eat every 90 minutes thereafter, you will consume a total of
12 meals before going to sleep that night.
But since each of those meals contains only 100 calories, then even
though you eat so many times per day--to the point that it seems like you
are almost constantly stuffing your face--you are actually consuming only
1,200 calories per day.
To get an idea of how few calories 1,200 per day actually is, consider that
the average person burns 50 calories an hour just maintaining basic life
systems. When you sleep, for example, you burn 50 calories an hour,
without even moving.
Then in 24 hours, burning 50 calories per hour, even if you never did
anything but sleep or lie immobile on the couch (a lifestyle we're not
recommending!) you would utilize 1,200 calories per day (24 hours x 50
calories).
In other words, you are taking in 1,200 calories per day and, even if you do
absolutely nothing all day, you are burning 1,200 calories per day. In that
situation, nothing whatsoever is left over to convert into fat.
But, wait! In most cases, you are going to be doing a LOT more than lying
immobile all day. And every action you take will increase the number of
calories you burn.
See where this is going?
If you did nothing but lie immobile 24 hours a day, you still would not gain
weight on the 6WD. But with every activity you do engage in, as you burn
more calories per hour than the basic 50, you are putting yourself into the
"negative" column (you are burning UP more calories than you take IN). At
the moment you begin to do that, you begin to LOSE WEIGHT, because your
body has no choice but to burn fat to supply itself with the calories it needs.
But what if you sleep LESS than eight hour per night? Won't that mean you
eat more meals per day and take in more calories?
Yes. And that's fine! Why? Because your caloric intake will still be less than
your caloric output. In fact, even if you never slept at ALL, and moved
around normally for 24 hours, and you ate a 6WD meal every 90 minutes
around the clock, you would still consume only 1,600 calories in 24 hours,
which would be significantly fewer calories than it would take for you to
function. Because for every hour that you are not sleeping and you're
moving around, you will be burning MORE than the 50 calories you would
burn during an hour spent asleep. Then, even if you moved so little that you
utilized only 75 calories per hour instead of 50, you would still be burning
1,800 calories per day--200 MORE than the 1,600 you’d consume if you
never slept and ate every 90 minutes, literally around the clock. Of course
you aren't going to do that. But you wanted to hear us say it, and we love to
indulge you. "Yes, you could eat around the clock and you would STILL lose
weight on the 6WD."
Twelve meals: the ultimate hunger buster
Another beautiful element about eating twelve meals a day is that just
at the point when you become hungry (the point at which your body turns to
your fat supply to meet its needs) it's time to eat again!
You see, setting gimmick diets aside, and taking an honest look at the
calorie-counting method of burning fat (the only weight-loss plan about
which experts agree), you will see that there must be moments in a
successful diet during which the body is burning fat for energy instead of
using calories from food.
It is only during these times that the dieter loses weight. It is also
during these times that the dieter normally experiences hunger.
If you are only allowed to eat three times a day, then obviously you
are forcing yourself to go for long periods of time with no food in your
stomach, while your body burns up fat.
And that whole time you feel H-U-N-G-R-Y!
Yes, you can lose weight that way, but why suffer unnecessarily by
going hungry for hours on end?
The 6WD has re-written that whole script. While you still need portions
of time during which your body uses fat instead of food--it's the only way to
lose weight--the trick is to spread out those moments over the course of an
entire day. You don't have to tolerate outright hunger for three long
stretches between your meals. It's miserable, it weakens your willpower,
and, worst of all, it slows your metabolism!
On the 6WD, your body has twelve between-meal chances--not just
three--to burn off your fat. And because you are eating so often, you just
don't feel hungry. Hunger pangs simply don’t have time to settle in before
it's time to eat again.
WONDERFACT #3
You'll be able to eat anything you choose –
even cheesecake!
Rule-intensive diets offer too few choices
It's a fact of life: when there are a tremendous number of rules to follow,
your range of choices narrows. The more limits set around you, the less
space you have in which to move.
Lopsided eating plans are unnatural
Unfortunately, it is that very principle (more rules, fewer choices), when
applied to diets, that can leave you with an unnatural and lopsided eating
plan. A simple glance at the world around you will tell you that "unnatural"
and "lopsided" are not words that describe healthy eating habits.
Well, the same is true for people. There are SO many diets today that
require you to follow SO many rules. In fact, some diet books require you to
study literally hundreds of pages just to begin to understand all the rules!
Fewer rules means more choices
The 6WD is based partly on the idea that simplicity is natural. And
because the 100-calorie feature is the only limitation, the 6WD offers you a
virtually unlimited panorama of food choices, so that you are free to follow
your personal preferences as well as your body's natural appetite.
This is why we say you really can eat ANYTHING YOU WANT.
We see it like this: If you can't have a juicy cheeseburger when you
really want one, or chocolate birthday cake, or bacon, or gooey pizza, well,
eventually you're just going to stray. You're going to reach the end of your
patience and just quit the whole plan.
And it only follows that if you select what you LIKE, rather than what
some 600-page manual dictates, you will stick with your healthy, slimming
eating plan--because there's simply no reason not to!
So on the 6WD, we make sure to accommodate your passions. The
only thing is: you just eat 100 calories' worth of your treasured treat at a
time. Ninety minutes later you eat another 100 calories of it. Most of the
time, even the naughtiest, most delicious, high-calorie treats can be
consumed over the course of three of your twelve daily meals! Even
cheesecake!
Healthy choices are best
Of course no one is recommending that you eat nothing BUT cheesecake and
burgers on the diet (although even if you did, you would lose weight.) You
should still create a well-rounded, sensible daily and weekly food selection.
And in the process of eating so many meals per day, you will have ample
opportunity to make varied, healthy choices.
WONDERFACT #4
You'll kickstart your metabolism!
What is metabolism?
The word "metabolism" simply refers to the process that take place inside
your body when the food you eat is broken down into energy.
Sometimes the word "burn" is used to describe what your metabolism does
in order to convert food into energy. The word "rate" is sometimes used to
refer to the speed at which your metabolism burns, or "metabolizes."
Different people metabolize at different rates. This means that if you and
your neighbor each ate the same amount of ice cream, your bodies might
metabolize the ice cream at different rates. If your neighbor's metabolism
burns at a faster rate than yours, your neighbor will finish processing the ice
cream in her body before you finish processing the ice cream in your body.
And it's not only a matter of how fast the food gets processed. A person with
a faster metabolism can consume more calories per day without gaining
weight.
Metabolism rates can also account for differences in the energy a person
feels. A faster metabolism can produce more available energy than a slower
metabolism.
A slow metabolism can mean a smart body
A slower metabolism, however, is nothing to fret about. In fact, in some
senses, a slower metabolism is something to be proud of; it can be an
indication of a kind of smart, survivor genetics, and even slower aging!
A slow metabolism will allow certain people to survive longer under
starvation conditions than people with faster metabolisms. Because if your
metabolism can burn so slowly that you can survive on half as many calories
per day as another person, then in a starvation situation, you would
theoretically be able to survive twice as long on the same small rations of
food.
For purposes of weight loss, however, a slow metabolism can make things
harder for you. You may be eating the same amount of food as your best
friend, only she never gains a pound and it seems like everything you eat
turns to flubber.
That's metabolism for you. But don't worry. The 6WD has it all figured
out.
You can raise or lower your metabolism
One great thing about metabolism is that its burn rate can be altered. There
are certain simple steps you can take that will actually raise the rate of your
metabolism.
Unfortunately, there are also ways to SLOW the rate of your metabolism,
making weight loss seem almost impossible. We will tell you how to avoid
slowing your metabolism, and show you how the 6WD works to bring your
metabolic rate to a brand new level of high-speed burn.
6WD's "feasting effect" speeds metabolism
A key feature of the 6WD is that eating twelve small meals per day cranks
up the metabolism, causing it to burn at a much higher rate. This happens
because the 6WD eating plan tricks your body into thinking that it has
entered into a perpetual feasting situation, where food is plentiful and
frequent. We call this the "feasting effect." The feasting effect causes your
metabolism to relax from its normal mode of holding on to every calorie, and
it begins to burn like merry hell. Once your metabolism begins burning at
this faster rate, you can lose weight much more easily.
Some nutritional experts refer to this speeding-up process as making
the metabolism "less efficient." They mean that the body begins to actually
be more wasteful with calories and doesn't use each and every one as
carefully as it did when it was burning slowly and "efficiently."
You know how it is when you have just a little money and lots of bills
to pay, and you're careful to make every penny count? But, on the other
hand, when you've just gotten paid, or received a big tax refund, you
sometimes feel like you have "money to burn"? And suddenly, you begin
spending money more loosely, maybe even wastefully?
Well, your body does the same thing. When your metabolism is
burning efficiently, or slowly, it holds on to every little thing you eat and
converts the excess to fat. However, when your metabolism becomes hotter
or "inefficient," it's as if your body isn't worried about the future and it feels
free to throw calories aside without even using them or turning them into
flubber.
This state of metabolic inefficiency--when your body doesn't try to hold
on to every little thing you eat--is the situation you want, when your goal is
to lose weight. And eating constant, regular, small meals is one way to
achieve it.
The famine effect slows metabolism
Remember this: The WORST thing you can do if you want a faster
metabolism is to go for any extended period of time without food. You may
think you're doing something smart by depriving your body of food and
calories.
But in fact, what's happening is that when you let yourself go hungry
for an extended period of time, your body begins to think it is entering a
starvation situation. This is called the "famine effect," and it brings nothing
but frustration and disappointment to so many weight loss efforts. The
body's response to famine is to immediately drop its metabolic rate so that it
can get as much mileage as possible from every bite you take. The result is
that your body holds on for dear life to every calorie, and every unused
calorie shows up on your figure as flubber.
So ya gotta EAT, EAT, EAT!
Isn't it nice to be on a weight loss plan where you not only get to eat a
minimum of twelve times a day, but you really have to TRY not to ever miss
a meal?
"Oh, I forgot to eat!" How often do we get to worry about forgetting to
eat? But on the 6WD, it's actually something we have to work at: eating
enough! Because we've gotta keep that metabolism cranked into overdrive,
and the only way to do it is to EAT, EAT, EAT!
Another problem may be with friends or co-workers asking if you are
EVER going to stop eating. And making you explain how you're getting so
thin when it seems like you never do anything but EAT.
Oh, what lovely problems to have.
WONDERFACT #5
No drugs, bizarre claims, or unproven gimmicks!
Because we believe that the single most important reason for losing
weight should be to achieve the dramatic health benefits that weight loss
offers, we take a very firm position AGAINST any diet program that requires
a dieter to compromise personal health, or to gamble with his or her health
by entering into strange eating regimens that are hotly contested by
experts.
For these reasons, we look to the natural order of eating and life
sustenance for clues as to what is healthy. If a diet claims to require weird
chemical supplements, teas, so-called fat-burning compounds, potions or
pills, we view it with suspicion. If a diet requires one to eat from limited or
one-sided food groups, we view it with suspicion.
For these and other reasons, the 6WD is founded on 100 percent all
natural, time-tested, scientifically proven principles of weight loss.
The underlying, foundational principle of the 6WD is that if you take in
fewer calories than you expend, you will lose weight. Simple, pure, and
clean.
No strange claims or gimmicks
While we respect the efforts of other diet inventors as they labor to
discover whole new ways of eating that allow people to stuff their faces with
massive quantities of greasy, high-calorie foods while still losing weight, we
must reserve our right to contemplate the question of whether finding a way
to stuff the face with massive quantities of greasy, high-calorie foods while
still losing weight is, in fact, the best possible use of one's time and talent.
It is accurate to say that our primary goal is not to facilitate the
greatest possible amount of face-stuffing or grease-swallowing.
That's why, with the 6WD, we have simply brought together the best,
healthiest, and most widely accepted techniques for rapid, natural weight
loss. And we have assembled those techniques into an easily do-able eating
plan, laid out in this simple, easy-to-follow book.
Let the rest of the world hold its breath while the experts go back and
forth in an ongoing effort to determine the value or lack thereof of the latest
radical, bizarre, gimmicky, unheard-of fad diet claim.
It's not your problem any more. You've found the 6WD.
So relax. Get a cup of coffee. With cream and sugar, if you like. All
YOU have to do is figure out what you want to eat at your next meal.
Because on the 6WD your next meal is never more than 89 minutes
away.
WONDERFACT #6
Cheating is IN!
Here's the deal: The 6WD was created for REAL people who have REAL
appetites for REAL foods that taste REAL good.
And when you're talking people, appetites and delicious foods, all combined,
a certain amount of cheating is just going to come with the territory.
Furthermore, any diet that does not take into account the fact that people
are going to cheat, is simply not realistic.
And any diet that doesn't have a solid built-in feature that deals effectively
with a little bit of cheatin' simply has something missing.
What do people usually mean by "cheating"?
On most diets, there's only one basic way to cheat, and that is to break the
rules. One day you feel like you have to just let loose, go hog wild and stuff
yourself silly. And it feels really, really good.
For a while, at least.
But then suddenly you get full--too full--and then you feel bloated. But
worse, the guilt sets in.
Then you start to worry. "What if just gained back 5 pounds?" "What if
my new skirt won't zip on Monday?"
And then the fear: "What if I NEVER get back on the diet again?"
Welcome back, because you never left
On the 6WD you never have to worry again about whether you just fell
off the diet for good. That's because on the 6WD, when you cheat, you
aren't really off the diet!
You might have stepped out of the house, but you were still on the
porch.
That's because the 6WD comes with an unlimited "welcome back"
policy. This policy acknowledges the fact that people, being people, are
going to lose control now and again; occasionally we're all going to cut loose
and eat like pot-bellied pigs. Because it's fun.
But when we do, we get to skip the guilt, because the 6WD says it's
absolutely OK to go absolutely nuts when we absolutely have to.
We also get to skip the fear about whether we'll get back ON the diet,
because the 6WD tells us right up front that cheating doesn't mean we've
fallen all the way OFF the diet. All we've done is step outside for a minute.
And the door back in is always open.
It all boils down to this: If you're on a diet where cheating isn't
considered altogether wicked, but is accepted as a natural, occasional part of
a lifelong healthy eating plan, then when you do lose control, there will be
two less barricades keeping you from making a complete return. First, you
won't need to feel guilty, and second, you won't need to worry that you've
lost all hope of returning.
And if you're on an eating plan that even cheating doesn't kick you out
of, well, you're much more likely to keep that plan forever. And that means
a lifetime of freedom from flubber.
And that's what the 6WD is really all about.
Variations: Cheating that isn't cheating
Another unique way in which the 6WD is designed for real people and
real lives, is that the 6WD eating plan works long term even with an infinite
number of variations in your weekly eating schedule.
It is, of course, a reality that the less time you spend following the
6WD, the less rapid will be your weight loss. But given a choice between
RAPID weight loss and a LIFETIME of weight management, we think the
long-term solution is better, even if it takes longer to lose the original
weight.
That's why the 6WD offers variations that involve going away from the
eating plan temporarily in order to allow you to accommodate to your
personal lifestyle.
The most common variations are:
* Weekends off: Go off the 6WD Friday night and return to it Monday
morning
* Days off: Take off one whole day per week
* Certain meals off: Set up regular meals that you can eat without
following the 6WD plan, or allow yourself occasional meals off, as they come
up.
Hurry back!
When you DO go off the plan, do NOT let a long period follow in which
you starve yourself. This will slow your metabolism. It is best to return to
the every-90-minute meal plan as soon as your hunger first returns. This not
only keeps your metabolism high (and the meals OFF the plan certainly do
nothing to slow down your metabolism! That's a positive!), but it also brings
you back into the plan right away so you don't risk forgetting about the 6WD
altogether.
So do whatchagottado. The 6WD has you covered.
WONDERFACT #7
The 6WD is utterly and completely simple!
On some level, it just doesn't seem like it should be COMPLICATED to
eat naturally and return to one's natural weight.
That's why the 6WD tells how in just six words.
But compare those six words to the Russian-novel length microfont-typeface
tomes that are sitting on the diet bookshelves in bookstores even as we
speak. Should it really take more than 500 pages of type that small to
explain how to lose weight?
And if it's THAT complicated, can we possibly remember all those
rules? And how many medical terms must we memorize before we can
simply lose a little flubber?
Do we really have to learn the start-up plan, the secondary plan, the
level-phase plan AND the short-term and long-term maintenance plans?
Do we really have to fully understand ketones, ketosis, lipolysis,
insulin, metabolic resistance, glycemic indices and yeast reactions before we
can just trim down?
And why is my computer drawing a red squiggly line under the word,
"lipolysis"?
Is that even a WORD?
Simple, simple, simple
Simply put, the 6WD is simple, simple, simple and it works, works,
works. And a diet simply can't be any simpler than that.
WONDERFACT #8
Exercise is NOT required for weight loss!
Absolutely no exercise whatsoever is required in order for you to lose
weight on the 6WD. That's because your daily calorie consumption will be so
low that even a minimal amount of activity will burn enough calories for you
to lose weight effectively.
But don't get TOO excited.
While exercise is not REQUIRED for weight loss, it is still highly
recommended.
Remember that the number one goal of any sane weight loss program
should be health. And it is impossible to achieve optimum health without
regular weekly exercise.
Exercise brings so many benefits into your life that it is almost
impossible to name them all.
But since we're talking about weight loss, don't forget that exercise
causes weight loss to occur much more rapidly--for two reasons.
First, when you exercise you burn more calories. And it's not just
DURING your exercise time that you burn more calories. Long after exercise
stops, your body continues to function at a faster pace, your metabolism
burns at a higher rate and more calories are used. The result is that more
fat is burned, and more flubber disappears.
Secondly, exercise builds muscle. The use and maintenance of muscle
tissue is the primary mechanism for burning up actual fat molecules.
Further, muscle tissue requires more energy to maintain itself when you are
NOT exercising, so that even when you are sleeping or not moving at all,
your body is using up larger amounts of fat and energy just taking care of
the muscles that you built up when you exercised.
In short, for pure fat burning and rapid weight loss, the dramatic effect
of exercise is absolutely unequaled.
Other benefits of exercise
It seems like every day a new report comes out with a new finding on
the benefits of exercise.
Exercise is a powerful force in managing or even alleviating depression
and anxiety disorders; exercise releases endorphins, which not only enhance
mood but can lead to deeper, sounder sleep. Exercise can strengthen bones,
and can forestall and even reverse the loss of mental and intellectual
abilities associated with old age. Exercise gives you a firmer, more shapely
body, as well as making you physically stronger so that physical tasks seem
far less difficult (stair-climbing, carrying groceries, etc.), and your risk of
injury from mishaps is reduced.
Exercise reduces risk factors for many major and terminal conditions,
including diabetes, cancer and heart disease, and osteoporosis. It can boost
your immune system and lower blood pressure.
In other words, exercise can actually lengthen your life. And besides
that, exercise can be fun!
The 6WD makes exercise easier than ever
Even though exercise is optional for purposes of weight loss, there IS a
special bonus that the 6WD provides, one that makes exercise especially
enjoyable: On the 6WD, you never need to exercise with an empty, hungry
stomach.
Since you are eating every 90 minutes, and the average exercise
session lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, you will be eating one of your meals
just before AND just after your exercise session. The meal before will
provide you with all the energy you need to have a great workout. The meal
that follows will feel like a delicious reward.
So pick your pleasure. Whether it's walking, biking, running, in-line
skating, swimming, playing, gardening, lifting weights or simply dancing
with the radio, the 6WD will do its part to keep you motivated and
deliciously surrounded--before and after--with food!
WONDERFACT #9
There's a l-o-o-ong list of unlimited foods!
One of the best things about the 6WD is the fact that whenever it taketh
away, it also giveth. When it shuts a window, it opens a door.
On the one hand, for example, your meals are reduced in size. But
then you get to eat so many times.
And while you're required to make sure the amount of calories per
meal is kept at 100, that restriction is completely counterbalanced by giving
you a list of foods that you can eat to your heart's content, without counting
ANYTHING.
We call these unlimited foods "free foods"; they are listed at the
beginning of the portions index at the back of the book.
And the list is very, very long!
Why have a list of free foods?
One reason the 6WD includes a long list of free foods is, simply, that
there is no reason not to!
There are so very many foods that are delicious and nutritious, but
which have so few calories that the process of preparing, eating and
digesting these foods uses up approximately the same number of calories
that they provide. Therefore, no matter how much you eat, the food will not
be converted into fat.
Even better: most of these quantity foods are the very foods that are
healthiest and best for you in every way: green and colorful high-fiber
vegetables, many fruits, melons and berries.
Obviously, foods like this are perfect for a weight loss diet. So we feel
strongly that they should be included.
Here are some of the benefits of having a list of free foods in a weight
loss program:
* Free foods are fun
* Free foods provide an oasis from having to count calories
* Free foods are fun
* Many free foods are extremely high in fiber and vitamin content
* Free foods are fun
* Free foods encourage a wide food selection and healthful variety
* Free foods prevent boredom
* Free foods give a satisfying feeling of fullness
* Having unlimited beverages to sip keeps hunger away
* Constant beverage access keeps you hydrated
* Coffee, tea, and soda caffeine provides energy
* Many teas contain healthful nutrients
* Did we mention that free foods are fun?
Does a free-food list encourage overeating?
Some people might argue that it is not a good idea to tell dieters that
there are foods they can eat as much of as they wish. Such people would
say that this encourages overeating in general.
But, as usual, the 6WD has ALREADY THOUGHT OF THAT, and has
created a special provision that, on the one hand, allows the 6WD participant
maximum freedom and eating pleasure while, on the other hand, avoids
encouraging the participant to develop bad habits.
That provision is that while you are allowed to eat as much of the free
foods as you wish, you are only allowed to do so DURING a meal time.
Hmmmm. What exactly does "during" mean?
Some people's first thought, when they hear that they can eat all they
want "during" a meal, might be: Hey, I know how to do this! I will make my
meals last for 90 minutes; then I will eat from the unlimited list "during" the
entire 90 minutes.
Well, yes, you COULD do it that way.
But we suggest that you don't. Remember: you're learning a new,
easy, healthy, lifetime way of eating often while keeping fat off. But you
aren't trying to learn how to eat for 18 straight hours a day. (At least you
WEREN'T until we mentioned it!)
So "during" means "during the few minutes it takes to eat a
100-calorie meal." We aren't going to tell you how many minutes a meal
should last, except to say that 90 minutes is definitely too long.
Coffee with cream and sugar?
Not only does the 6WD include a list of foods that are free, but it also
includes free and unlimited beverages!
But wait--it gets better.
Almost every weight loss plan allows you to have all the water and diet
drinks you want, as well as coffee or tea as long as the coffee and tea are
served with nothing added.
But the 6WD allows CREAM AND SUGAR in your coffee or tea! Because
cream and sugar are just one more little comfort, and the more little
comforts you can hold on to, the more likely you are to make your new
eating plan permanent.
(Pssst! If you have a sweet tooth, don't forget about low-calorie hot
chocolate packets! Mix with hot water and you have a satisfying dessert to
end any meal.)
Now, this does NOT mean you can have high-calorie lattes and heavy
cream/high calorie coffee drinks. Nor should you fill up your cup halfway
with cream, or pour a cup of sugar in.
But you CAN have cream or milk and sugar IN MODERATION, if those
are important to your enjoyment of your coffee or tea. The reason this is
allowed is because the actual calories in moderate amounts of cream and
sugar are relatively small. In addition, it takes a long time to sip down a cup
of hot tea or coffee and whatever calories are in the cream and sugar are so
dispersed over such a long period of time that their effect on your weight
loss is simply not worth worrying about.
One other little surprise
One other special treat is that you’re allowed to chew gum--sugar OR
sugar-free! As long as you don't stuff 20 pieces in your mouth every 5
minutes, we think gum is one of those comforts no one should have to live
without.
Plus, if you experience hunger in the last few minutes before a meal
time, just one piece of gum with sugar in it will get you through every time.
WONDERFACT #10
The 6WD works with ANY eating preference: low-fat, high-carb,
vegan, vegetarian, high-fat/high-protein, optimizing your health.
As we know, there are lots of opinions in the nutritional world today
about what kind of food is best to eat. Some say fat and protein is the key;
others say complex carbohydrates are best. Others feel it is healthiest to be
vegetarian, while others believe that the ultra-strict vegan diet (no animal
products) is the only way to go.
The 6WD, being in favor of the natural path to health, understands
that the best way to support the natural process of choice is to leave as
much room as possible for all individuals to follow the food-selection plan
that they believe works best for their bodies, lifestyles, belief systems, and
personal health factors.
6WD works with EVERY eating style
Because there are no rules about WHAT you can eat on the 6WD (the
only rules are about how MUCH you can eat and how OFTEN) the 6WD is
absolutely unique among diets.
That is because the 6WD eating plan is compatible with literally ANY
food selection preference.
All you need to do is to take the food choices that are prescribed in
your favorite nutritional plan and eat those foods in 100 calories portions,
every 90 minutes.
The vegetarian, for example, will choose twelve 100-calorie cheese,
egg or vegetable meals each day, while the high-protein person will choose
more meats or salads with oil dressing.
In fact, if you are living with special nutritional requirements, and are
aware enough about your body and metabolism to know which specific foods
tend to make you gain weight, and which don't, then you may benefit
doubly. You will be combining the weight loss properties of the 6WD with
other weight loss properties associated with special food groups. The result
can be an enhanced, ultra-tailored weight-control eating plan.
On the other hand, you don't have to know anything about any of the
many nutritional plans on the market today, in order to have unparalleled
success.
Because the 6WD works its wonders regardless of the kind of food you
eat, you can eat whatever you like!
By allowing you to select from ALL food groups, you’re given access to
the unique benefits that each food group offers. Diets that exclude or
drastically limit one or more of the food groups, deprive you of those unique
benefits.
Healthy side effects of the 6WD
Better choices -- effortlessly
As you get into the habit of choosing the largest portions possible
within the 100-calorie limit, you will suddenly realize that you are now
choosing lower fat meats and cheeses. Without even thinking about it, you
will then be cutting cholesterol and many kinds of unhealthy fats from your
diet, and from your body!
Blood Sugar Blessings
Eating frequent small meals can help you establish a stabilized blood
sugar level. If you are diabetic, you should strictly follow your doctor's
instructions, of course, but you may find that eating many small meals per
day is in keeping with your diabetic meal plan.
For persons who tend toward hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), you
may find your doctor strongly approving of your eating small, regular meals.
And as you become more experienced with the 6WD, you will find that there
are times of day when you are hungrier than at other times, or more likely
to experience low blood sugar, and that eating more protein and fat for your
meals at those times can stabilize or even completely eradicate
hypoglycemia.
Cookin' Good
When every calorie counts, you are able to discover new healthful ways of
cooking foods to keep calories down. You will find yourself tending away
from frying, and discovering the fun of grilling and steaming. Grilling and
steaming not only make vegetables more colorful and tasteful, but helps
retain rich nutritional elements in all foods.
Affirming your healthy appetite
Let's face it. One of the reasons many of us need to lose weight in the
first place is because we get hungry, and then we like to eat. No: we LOVE
to eat. Eating brings us great pleasure and makes us feel happy.
And that's a good thing. A healthy appetite is a gift, not a curse.
Have you ever gone through a day or week when you didn't want to
eat because you had lost your appetite? Chances are that during those days,
something was out of harmony in your life--physically, emotionally,
spiritually, or maybe even all three.
That's because in the natural order, a loss of appetite is a signal that
something is wrong.
And in that sense, losing one's appetite is not a very pleasant
experience.
On the other hand, a healthy appetite, more often than not, is an
indication of just the opposite: strong appetite can be a sign of vitality,
energy and balance.
So let's not forget that a good appetite is a blessing. Therefore, any
diet that tries to kill your appetite, or makes you wish you didn't have an
appetite is going against the natural order.
The 6WD is one of the few diets that can stand up to that fact and
affirm that appetite can be an expression of health. In fact, the 6WD actually
USES your appetite to help you lose weight.
Because your healthy appetite will remind you to eat, you are less
likely to forget a meal. And the fewer meals you forget, the better the 6WD
process functions, and the hotter your metabolism will burn.
This is one of the most delightful ways the 6WD surprises you:
BECAUSE of your healthy appetite--not IN SPITE OF IT--the diet works best.
