Resolved Question: Supplements question......?
I have been lifting for 3 years now. I have never taken any supplements before. I have been in a rut now for the past 6 months where I have not noticed any gains. My arms have stayed at 18 inches.
Like I said I never took anything. I have friends that take supplements all the time (creatine, amino acids,nitric..), and spend hundreds of dollars and they never see significant growth. Has anyone ever took anything that really helped...? (except roids).
Thanks, I am sure I will get those automatic responses from those people who put their websites on here, that don't even go with the question!

Resolved Question: Add to my "list" of growing taller ideas?
Anyways, I know that growing taller is a VERY sensitive issue in today's society. But for me, I want to grow to an abnormal height (7'3" for you nosey people). I alreadey have some ideas on how I can do this:
1. Stretch: This only works during puberty, so i have to start now!
2. Weight Bearing Exercise: Stimulates bone growth.
3. Supplements: Like amino acids, zinc and vitamin K.
4. Emotion: Negative emotions and stress can cause premature GP fusion.
5. Sleep: Obvious, so I won't bother with the details.
6. Food: Protein, water, cards, calcium and zinc. Plus alot more.
Anything else I can add to my "program"?
PS: For the IDIOTS who think that growth is only genetic, don't even bother with you answers, their BS.
Sorry, I forgot, thanks for reminding me guys!
7. Exercise: BBall, tennis and swimming!

Voting Question: what are the comparison between vitamin supplements and amino acid supplements?
Resolved Question: Can Nitric Oxide Use Increase Erection Size? Also, can the use of an amino acid supplement increase penis size?
Resolved Question: OK to take all these supplements together?
So after much trial and error and the medical world, I saw an MD recently who attempts natural ways before anything pharmaceutical. I have had some problems with my nervous system which were spurred by a "nervous breakdown" of sorts, I won't go into detail. But have been left with this depression.
She showed me the pathways of amino acids which lead to seratonin and dopamine clearly, and believed my body wasn't methylating properly.
My question is: Is it a good idea to take ALL of these supplements together? Many have overlapping B vitamins, especially B12, and I'm not sure if that's too much.
If not, which should I try and for how long?
Here are the supplements:
METHYL PROTECT:
http://www.xymogen.com/2008/formula.asp?code=000042
B2 - 25 mg
B6 - 10 mg
Folate - 2000 mcg
B12 - 1000 mcg
Trimethylglycine - 500 mg
MOOD FOOD:
http://www.xymogen.com/2008/formula.asp?code=000044
B6 - 4 mg
B12 - 1000 mcg
Folate - 800 mcg
Magnesium - 50 mg
GABA - 250 mg
5-HTP - 50 mg
along with a powdered methyl B12 of 3,000 mg for sublingual.
Whew.

Resolved Question: Amino Acids for protein synthesis?
So I understand that this is somewhat the "golden" ratio when it comes to amino acids. Two parts L-Leucine and two parts L-Valine for every one part of L-Isoleucine. I am currently taking L-Leucine as part of a thermogenic pre workout supplement. Do I need to add the other two Aminos to effectively maximize my protein synthesis???

Resolved Question: Neurotransmitters and cognitive function: supplements that facilitate this?
Would anyone happen to know of any supplements that, in a balanced and thorough manner, enhance or supply necessary chemicals/amino acids (whatever it may be- I'm not well versed in these matters) to enhance cognitive function?
I don't have ADD or any disorder, but improvements are always welcome.
I'm looking for something natural, not amphetamines or legal crack (lol).

Resolved Question: Is it safe to combine these supplements?
I have extremely bad social anxiety and mild depression. I've tried many medications over the past few years and have had little to no results. Talk therapy and exercise definately help but in addition, I'm looking into herbal or natural supplements.
I take a regular multi-vitamin and was wondering if anyone might know if supplements can be taken with a daily vitamin? I want to try animo acids (total amino solutions), L-theanine, Rhodiola rosea and 5-htp supplements together.

Resolved Question: What foods have all 8 essential amino acids?
After having been a vegetarian for over 14 years and a vegan for 3, can you believe I have ONLY JUST found out about amino-acids.
Apparently, there are 20 amino-acids in the body and 8 of them are "essential" for protein.
So, it's not enough to eat things that have protein in them, such as beans, lentils etc, but we have to eat the right combinations of these to ensure we have all 8 amino-acids daily.
So, as I understand it, butter beans may only have 3 amino-acids and chick-peas might have another 5, but if they are not all different, we havent actually had the essential 8 building blocks that we need to build one full protein.
This does worry me, especially as my children are vegan too, and I want to make sure i dont see some deficiencies turning up later on.
Apparently one of my friends says that quinoa is the only food that has all 8 amino-acids in it. Of course I hate the taste of quinoa so much I almost cried!!!
But I was hoping someone on here might know something more on the subject and would be able to tell me the following:
a.
Is it true that quinoa is the "only" food that has all essential 8 amino-acids?
b. If not, do you know which other foods do?
c. Are there any supplements that can give us these?
Thank You so Much!!!
Alex
Sorry, forgot to say, what foods
APART FROM ANIMAL FLESH, EGGS AND DAIRY PRODUCTS
have all 8?
I want to stay healthy, not start drinking milk.... :-)
Goodygoodywitch,
FYI, lentils only have 6 amino-acids, so they cannot build a full protein.
Rice has only 7, hence that is also not a full protein.
But thanks for the TOFU tip! That seems to be right! (But does tofu contain cow's milk???)
Resolved Question: what's best for me? Optimum Nutrition 100% gold standard whey protein or Mega Mass?
I bought 10lbs of Optimum Nutrition 100% gold standard whey protein and amino acid tablets? Is it safe to take those supplements simultaneously?
Voting Question: i was taking supplements, cant seem to get a lasting erection. Help!?
i was taking a stack of creatines, L-arginine and other nitric oxide, and a lot of amino acids. (dont think i need to name them off)
now im on a different supplement but has similar stuff in it except it doesnt have L- arginine. it seems ever since i got off the stuff i was taking before, i cant get hard like i use to. A few days ago my gf and i were having sex and i got up okay before sex but while we were having it i had to concentrating so much to keep it hard but eventually it just went soft. its upsetting my gf because she thinks i dont find her attractive any more. im wondering if my body got so use to the extra L-arginine that i was taking in that it isnt producing enough of its own making my sex drive suffer. I'm also tired a lot because of school and what not. anyways any help would be appreciated. im 18 years old so i never thought i would have to deal with this. my sex drive use to be through the roof. thanks!

Resolved Question: I'm thinking of taking prenatals for hair/etc (not pregnant). Is this vitamin safe?
I know it's important not to go crazy with the iron and some other nutrients if you aren't pregnant. This one seems reasonable to me, is there anything I should be concerned about?

Resolved Question: is amino acid as a supplement for workout good or bad to take?
Resolved Question: What happens if you only eat once a week but take supplements for all your dietary needs? Is that safe?
I've often considered what the physical consequences of limiting food to once every few days, or even once a week, but make sure that your body receives all of the essential amino acids, proteins, vitamins, and other dietary supplements essential for good health.
Is this something the body can tolerate? Is this an unsafe thing to do? I searched around but couldn't find any studies on the matter. I imagine that it's probably unsafe for one reason or another, but I also imagine that we're probably not far off from living in an age where food as we know it may become obsolete.
The only thing I can think of is that without sufficient sugars and fats, your body will use its own storage for energy. Once depleted, you could suffer some serious consequences. Is that the only problem, though?
Considering some of the replies, please note that this is not something I have personally considered doing. I don't need dietary advice, I'm asking what the consequences on the human body would be. Thanks!
